Five critical battery charger functions to extend the life and performance of batteries

A boat's comfort and safety relies on the electrical system. Batteries are the heart of the electrical system and are often the largest single expense. Batteries are sensitive to failure and shortened life if not charged properly. Modern battery chemistries - Gel, AGM, TPPL, Lithium Ion, and current Flooded Lead Acid (FLA) - require adherence to manufacturer's charging recommendations for reliability. Following these recommendations requires a battery charger both rugged and sophisticated.

P12 Battery Charger
  1. User Defined Charge Profiles (Voltages)
Set the charger's voltages to match the battery manufacturer's recommendations
  2. User Defined Absorption Stage Values
Determine when the charger should exit the Absorption Stage in order to prevent overcharging
  3. Charge Coordination
Insure Automatic Charging Relays (ACR) are not operating in conflict with the charger. On shore power with a three bank charger, ACRs are not required as they are when away from the dock and one alternator must charge 3 battery banks.
  4. PreFloat – a Blue Sea Systems P12 exclusive (Patent Pending)
Relieve the voltage pressure on each of the three batteries as each is ready in order to prevent overcharging of one battery while another is still charging.
  5. Battery Temperature Compensation
For adjusting charging voltage up (for colder batteries) or down (for warmer batteries) as recommended by almost all battery manufacturers for proper battery performance. Temperature must be determined by a sensor on the battery. Sensing the temperature of the charger itself, as is done on some models, is useless for battery voltage compensation.

P12 Battery Charger Production Expanded

Blue Systems has significantly expanded its production capabilities for the P12 Battery Charger and are now on schedule to manufacture, test, and ship within the normal 3-day lead time.

P12 Battery Charger LED Remote

Monitor the P12 Battery Charger's status and see alerts from a remote location using the P12 Battery Charger LED Remote. The display uses LEDs to indicate Charging, Charge Stage, Fan Mode, Charge Output, and Alerts. The remote can also control the P12 Battery Charger's output and fan speed. The remote can be mounted in a 360 Panel and rear or surface mounted on its own. The remote connects to the P12 charger using a Cat5e cable (included).
